Italialaisen vaihto-opiskelijamme Agnese Campin kokemuksia Suomesta

Syyslukukauden ajan meillä oli italialainen vaihto-opiskelija Agnese Campi. Ohessa hänen itsensä kertomana kokemuksia Suomessa ja Kokkolassa vietetystä ajasta.

My Exchange Experience in Finland

From August to January, I had the chance to study as an exchange student in Kokkola, and it was an unforgettable experience. Since the beginning of the experience my host family helped me to learn everything about the city and made me feel at home with the warm welcome. Kokkola is a small city compared to Parma, but it felt like the perfect size for an exchange student because it has a perfect mix of nature and all the services of a modern town, so I felt like I could try so many different experiences.

Finland surprised me in many ways, especially with its education system and beautiful nature. I started school right away, and that helped me to discover a new routine and get used to it. One of the things I liked the most was the Finnish school system. It’s very modern and focuses a lot on the well-being of students. The teachers are not only knowledgeable but also care about the student’s mental health, which made a big difference. It is quite different from Italy, mainly in a good way, but with the help of all the teachers, the principal and some friends it was very easy to get used to the new schedule. At the end of it I could say that it felt different and much more caring than what I was used to in Italy.

Another one of the biggest surprises for me was Finland’s nature. The forests, lakes, and even the northern areas I saw were breathtaking. Every part of the country, from the south to the north, has its own beauty. I was very surprised to see so much nature in a city like Kokkola too. In Italian cities there’s not many green areas, and to really enjoy the beauty of it you have to go outside the city. Finland’s nature is peaceful and calm, and it’s unlike anything I’ve seen before. I’m so happy I got to experience it.

I recommend everyone who has the possibility to go and do this experience because it was truly life changing. I met so many people from around the world, learning about their culture but learning about myself as well. It’s amazing to create new connections with so many different exchange students who are experiencing the same emotion as you and will help you when you need it.

In the end, my exchange in Finland was a wonderful and eye-opening experience. I learned a lot about Finnish culture, the education system, and myself. I left with great memories, and I couldn’t wait to tell my friends and family about everything I’ve experienced during this period.
